Dresden Files
By Ld Gonzalez
Last August I discovered a great series of books by author Jim Butcher after watching a show called "The Dresden Files" on Hulu. I became fascinated by the TV show and then decided to check out the books the show was based on. I was promptly hooked on the stories about a private eye and wizard and his adventures in Chicago. There was only one season (12 episodes) of the TV show when it was on SyFy which starred actor Paul Blackthorne as Harry Dresden. The current Dresden Files novels include: Storm Front Fool Moon Grave Peril Summer Knight Death Masks Blood Rites Dead Beat Proven Guilty White Night Small Favor Turn Coat I managed to read all 11 novels that are currently published and a short story between August and October of 2009 and am currently rereading the series in anticipation for the 12th book: Changes. There is also an anthology of most of the currently published short stories coming out in Summer of 2010. The Anthology will be called "Side Jobs." If you like graphic novels, the first novel: Storm Front has been transcribed into a graphic novel. An original story "Welcome to the Jungle" was also made into a beautiful comic book. These can be found in some bookstores (Borders / B&N) or online through Amazon. There is also an RPG game coming out soon based on the Dresden Files series for gamers. James Marsters or Spike from "Buffy: the Vampire Slayer" is the voice of Harry Dresden in the unabridged audio CDs and a very good narrator at that. Check out Buzzy Media ( http://www.buzzymultimedia.com/thedresdenfilesaudios.html )for sample chapters of some of the novels. Chris McGrath ( www.christianmcgrath.com ) is the talented artist/illustrator who creates the beautiful artwork for Jim Butcher's novels. He put out a calendar for 2009 of all the current book covers. I have a copy and highly recommend it if you are a fan of the Dresden Files series. You can still find it for sale on Amazon. Check out his site for more of his beautiful art created for Dresden Files and other series. If you'd like to find out more information about this series, The Blue Whale Pub online ( www.thebluewhalepub.com ) has a weekly Saturday viewing through Youtube and Hulu of the Dresden Files show as well as a section where fans can communicate with each other about the series. There is also Jim Butcher's official site: www.jim-butcher.com where you can find out more about his writings and communicate with other fans of the series. |
